Masha’Allah

Masha Allah, also Masha’Allah, Ma shaa Allah is an Arabic phrase that is most often translated as “God has willed”, “God willing” or “as God willed” and used to express appreciation, joy, praise, or thankfulness for an event or person that was just mentioned. Wikipedia

Good Morning everyone 🙂 Today i thought id share another common word used by muslims all over the world. My cousin, who is hafiz, explained to me the importance of this little word when interacting with people or when they are interacting with you. Masha’Allah would be used when complimenting someone or when someone compliments you or something you own. For example, you are so beautiful, Masha’Allah, you have such a nice new phone Masha’Allah. This forms as a protection from any malicious thoughts by you, or by the next person. Often people give compliments  for certain things and then at the back of their minds they wish they had it too or you wish you had what someone else had.  I was watching a Youtube video of one of my favorite vloggers and she said her co-worker told her how beautiful her skin is and how in her mind she was thinking “please say Masha’Allah or i will get pimples”. So by saying Masha’Allah you appreciate what someone else has by being genuinely happy for them knowing it is what God has willed for them and not for you.

Have a lovely weekend and Jummuah Mubarak!
